Pat Johnson's garden and planting design case studies

Essex based garden deigner Pat Johnson specialises in low maintenance garden and planting design and the results are quite amazing. With a combination of design and her knowledge of plants grassy overgrown areas can be transformed into beautiful interesting gardens. Some of Pat's work can be seen below.

Pat's own garden can be seen here and shows the transformation of the grass area into a colourful, interesting garden.

Garden before new design

This was a long and fairly narrow garden. The design set at a 45% angle helped to give an impression of width. The second photo shows the newly landscaped garden just after it was planted.

Commencing work on the new garden

From a builders yard to a beautiful border. Large stones were used for the rockery, which contrasts well with the brick wall. The plants in this garden have started to mature and fill their allotted space.

Attractive planted borders Low maintenance plants

There are no 'before' shots but these photos are of a revamped border. I took out and moved plants that were in the wrong place or had grown too big. I then filled the gaps with plants suitable for this fairly shaded border.

Borders and trellis work are used

The photos show how trelliswork has divided the garden into 3 ‘rooms’, each of which has a different purpose. The design also helps to disguise a long and very narrow garden.
